Building Upon Our Past To Shape Our Future

SOAR Fox Cities was founded in the 1950’s by parents who had children with developmental disabilities. At that time, the prevailing notion was that individuals with disabilities should be institutionalized. There were no programs or activities for children and adults with developmental disabilities, much less support for their families. Our founding parents wanted more for their children and dared to ask “What if we could create a better world for our sons and daughters? What if we supported and empowered our children to reach new heights?” With their courage and advocacy, our agency was founded and today we are continuing to support and empower individuals with disabilities.

Looking back at the history of our agency, we are so proud of the parents who asked, “What if?” Today, SOAR Fox Cities celebrates 65 years of “Empowering People with Differing Abilities” but the milestone is not ours alone. We would not be where we are today without the parents who advocated for inclusion and empowerment or the donors, volunteers, and supporters who have been part of the journey. Thank YOU for helping to create a community where individuals with disabilities can reach new heights.

Because of you, there’s a place where parents, like Nancy, can find resources and support, and individuals with differing abilities, like Laura, can be socially connected and encouraged to thrive.

"SOAR has been there for Laura and for our family since her birth. We received information about SOAR from a nurse and were so lucky to connect with SOAR staff and families who helped us from day one. Without their support and encouragement in all the steps of our journey, we would not be where we are today. I know people in our situation that live in communities that do not have a “SOAR” to support them, and they have missed many joys in their journey. I truly cannot express how thankful I am for the friendships, guidance, and support we have received from SOAR." -Nancy Strebe, SOAR Parent
